A Girl in Orange Two-Piece- The Island Girl

People travel for different reasons— but mostly searching for something that makes sense in their lives that gives them more to go on after. To see thousands of ways of doing exactly the same thing completely unknown to them.

But how many of us really dream of leaving everything behind to go and live on a tropical island somewhere? Well, probably if you’d ask me… my answer will be a BIG YES! Living a simple and native life would be a PERFECT MOMENT for me.Living in an island, we get used to a simpler life with less distractions of the modern world. We spend more time with family and friends. Children are satisfied to play outside in the greatest natural playground that there is.

Waking up and feeling the fresh sea-breeze, hearing the rustling of coconut trees, chirping of birds, the calming sound of the sea and the soft sound of motorboats is TOTALLY a PERFECT MORNING!!! Having your breakfast near the seashore and a fresh sea foods on the table is really a SUPERB! *yassss!*

Growing up in the city was really different growing up in an island. I myself is a living testimony of how our family lives has its turning changed. We were young then when our mom decided to finally go back to our hometown. At first, yes, to be honest I am not happy with the decision made by my parents but being a kid you don’t have the choice but to deal with it. (*sarcasm*) How do I feel living in an island? At times trapped by the constraints of such a small island, the inadequacies of supplies, the expense of everything and the constant decay of anything precious. No Jollibee, no McDonalds, no shopping malls, no social media. (Sad life right?) If we’d stick to that thought you’ll probably go crazy but in my case I take it positively cause at the other side of that there will be times that I am freed by the ability to go anywhere or see anyone in a day and to always be able to see the ocean and devour the views and be part of God’s masterpiece. (so perfect right?). There is no social media way back then and I don’t even read newspapers or follow celebrity trends. At times we watch news but that is only during at night since there is no electricity in the island. All we do is meet people and ask them about their lives instead. (Nakikichismis? Hahahah of course No)

When people in the “normal world” or let’s just say city people imagine living on a tropical island they picture a lifestyle offered in all too many glossy brochures. They are secretly envious of your life and I mean let’s face it , why shouldn’t they be? — Island dwellers live in a holiday island! LOL!!!

What non-island dwellers do not realize is that, sometimes living on a tropical island is not all Piña Colada’s and sunsets (well, kinda mostly,it is :). There were times when it’s a little frustrating and I prefer to think of it as island quirks! Occasionally island people need to compromise, they make do,we do. They substitute and pool resources if need be. And I bet, they (we) are resourceful folk.*wink* Island dwellers know about being patient for things to get arrive or to get done. They accept these small inconveniences in exchange for a much slower and pastoral lifestyle and to tell you honestly, they do it very well! You will find people in the island genuinely happy even for small things, they get to know you and go out their way to help and welcome you in the community.

At times, you will find getting on and off an island difficult for various reasons. One is the weather factor and possibly the island time and the other one is the transportation. When it’s hot you wish it would rain and when it starts raining it feels like it will never stop. (Urghhhhh, how I wish the weather is always fine). ‘Island Time is a genuine thing. You’ll learn that living life at a slower pace allows you to step back and appreciate the moment.  Solar and generator is the power source of light and electricity in our island. Here in the City, if the power shut down, you’d be scrambling. But in the island, on land and sea, natural resources are in abundance. Hurraaaay to this!

Island life will leave you with a lot of spare time to reflect. It will teach you to take step back and appreciate life, appreciate natural beauty and human kindness. You’ll learn to live in the moment (pure happiness), live freely and to not take life seriously. Coz’ (Y.O.L.O).hahahaha…

Are you ready to live in an island? There may not be the best of shops but there will always be the best beaches. There may not be a fancy night life but there will be always an amazing sunsets and interesting company. You may have to wait for things but who cares? there is plenty to keep you occupied in the meantime. But I bet,you are shaking your head right now saying “Yes!I want to be there”.

And that made me always be the Island Girl!ALWAYS ❤
